Midnight & Fir
The Heritage tree standing in a dark room beside a lit lamp, its burgundy and gold ornaments picked out by the warm light.
A burgundy glass ornament close up on a branch, a gold ornament and small warm lights softening away behind it.
A dark brown basket-weave collar around the foot of the tree, low light raking across the weave.

After everyone goes

Late, and nothing else is on

The tree is a Balsam Hill Silverado Slim. It’s artificial — which is why it looks like this on the twenty-eighth of December, and why there is never anything to sweep. The ornaments are Balsam Hill Signature in burgundy with the Gilded Glory collection. It stands in a dark brown basket weave collar, with a gold mirror star at the top.

Eight hundred dollars for the season. Nothing else to pay, and nothing to do in January.
